Man, Google is smooth (Google Calendar)

I’ve been using Google Calendar at home for the joint family calendar. Makes it easier than me manually typing the calendar ever week or so.

Being the mobile guy, I kept looking for any hint that there’s a mobile version.

Well, after looking at some of the mobile-savvy URLs that Google has, I was able to guess the URL for Google Calendar Mobile: <http://www.google.com/calendar/m>.

It really works well, quite mobile-savvy.

Google has constantly been delivering quality mobile apps that make great use of the Internet. We could all learn a lot from watching them.

  1. Using Opera on an S60 3rd edition phone, I just went to http://www.google.com/calendar and it loaded the mobile version automatically.
    I had a quick go with GCalSync but it didn’t work on this S60 3rd ed.

    I’ve just given GooSync a go now — you need to register — it’s hard enough from a proper computer so don’t try with on the phone. Seems to works well on a first attempt. There are restricions on sending the auto-configure SMS, so here are the sync profile settings for future reference.
    Open Tools->Sync application.
    Sync profile name: GooSync.com
    Applications: Calendar only
    * Include in Sync: Yes
    * Remote database: Calendar
    * Synchronisation type: Both ways
    Connecioin settings:
    * Server version: 1.1
    * Data bearer: Internet
    * Access point: Always ask (or whatever)
    * Host address: http://www.goosync.com/sync/sync.aspx
    * Port: 80
    * Username: your GooSync username
    * Password: your GooSync password
    * Allow sync requests: Yes
    * Accept all sync requests: No
    * Network authentication: No
    Oh, and I’ve not tried this yet:

  2. You might want to give GooSync a go.
    Ive been using gcalg for a while now and been using GooSync for my mobile sync and Calgoo for my offline sync with icals, outlook, etc.
    Together they rounded out the gcal experience enough that I could get rid of exchange all together.

  3. I tested the Google SMS reminder thing yesterday. Both Google Calendar and my phone have the same time zone. I created an event on Google Calendar entry for 5pm with an SMS reminder for 10 minutes beforehand. It arrived at 9.50pm!
