If you could put one thing in the device hardware…

… what would it be.

I dream of a button that, when you press it, does something amazing. Not sure, though, what that amazing thing would be.

  4. A ‘remember this’ button, which upon being pressed would instantly commit to memory whatever I happened to be thinking at that precise moment.
    Sadly, my notebook isn’t always convenient and string is fraught with usability issues. 🙂

    Been there, done that. In 2005.
    If you look at running applications from your current Nokia S60 device, for example with (shameless ad!) Device Status app from beta labs, you’ll notice:
    Z:\sys\bin\AnyKey.exe

    It uses my mobile phone’s camera to read typed text or handwriting. The software (or possibly a written or typed tag) determines what kind of information it is; if it’s a business card, it saves it as a contact; if it’s a web page URL, it lets me launch it in my mobile browser; if it’s a note, it saves it as digital text.
    I’ve been able to do this (with a scanner or webcam) on my desktop PC for ten years. Now, I want this on my mobile phone. PLEEEASE!

    Oh yes… I just remembered what else I wanted it to do: read in musical notation, and play it/save it as a ringtone. 🙂
    How COOL would it be to be able to run your mobile phone camera sequentially over a musical score and have it play back (perhaps even polyphonically, and with different “voices”)…
    Not a big ask, surely? Musical notation is pretty well standardised, as is synthesiser and playback technology!? 🙂
